I've always had self insert ocs/sonas, ever since I begun drawing. While most of their designs and iterations are currently and permanently lost, due to the death of my first laptop, I found a few old pictures of Jimmy's previous design, though he wasn't called as such but served the exact same purpose anyway.
The first iteration of Jimmy was created around March 2020, as a mean to commission one of my favourite artist of the time inky-heart, AKA blastic-heart back then. Unfortunately, they deleted their previous account, but they still post online. Please support them, they're so cool (be warned, they make a lot of nsfw and gorey art). I wanted to create a very masculine character to compensate by feminine, pre transition appearance. It was also the time I begun questionning my sexuality and gender identity more throughly, though I identified as a binary,, bisexual man.
In Summer 2020, I changed Jimmy's design towards something more sexual/lewd, by making him an incubus. The reason why is quite disturbing (tw emotional and sexual abuse), it was to cope with being percieved as a sex object by a few of my closest friends. The second one, which is more feminine, was created specifically to fit their preference towards feminine looking people. I loved drawing him for sure, but I can't help but feel bitter towards it, because of what it represents.
These designs came at around the same time, between January to March 2021. This is when I came out as genderfluid. I decided to make Jimmy a regular human, probably because I got tired of the incubus aesthetic, but also because I've fallen into puritanist twitter mindsets (I don't exactly remember which groups, but they were close to the anti proshippers and into art lore). I hesitated and still do hesitate between a pink or purple color scheme, as both are my favourite colors. I do not have a whole lot to say on these designs. I've kept this design for almost a full year (which never happened later on).
In december 2021, I changed his hair style, after finishing Jojo's bizzare adventure and really liking Doppio's hair style. Nothing much changed until I started suffering from religious psychosis, which I won't dwelve into, but keep in mind that I genuinely though I was an angel set to earth to safe my friends, but failed and I deserved to die. Thank god I got out of it after taking medication for a while.
I'm back in the fucking building again with the color pink. In April 2022, Jimmy's hair got curly, their (Jimmy's pronouns changed to they/them) whole color scheme changed and their overall vibe got more happier and colorfull. I had to accept that, unfortunately, HRT takes time to get and I'll have to look feminine and soft for quite a while. I've embrassed it by making my sona more androgynous and unashamed of their appearance. This also coincides with my self discovery journey, and started to identify with non binary, as I was unsure of how exactly I identity as.
Then, I got tired of their weird hair fringe and changed it, in June 2022... And yet, such a tiny change impacted their design so much, they became my favourite and most drawn Jimmy design. They stayed as such for a while. Their design was simple but had details that made them so unique too. I think I should get more inspired by this design for my current sona's design. Only a few minor hair changes occured until I changed them drastically.
In June 2024, I've drastically changed their color palette for a triadic color scheme, with pink, cyan and yellow. At first, they stayed quite androgynous, but I decided to change their gender expression much more soon after. He (changed his pronouns back to he/him) got a new haircut, a beard, and a more hairy body. Jimmy's fangs and tusks got sharper and bigger. This is a major update, to fit how my body changed at the time (as I begun FTM HRT in November 2022, but only had major physical changes in mid 2024).
My sona majorly changed again in April 2025. Perhaps I grew disatisfied with his appearance and vibe and wanted Jimmy to fit my actual personality. This is also the time where I've watched a looooooot of videos on sonas and how people made them (Zailor's video on their sona especially inspired me). After quite a lot of research and help from my friends, his final design combines one of my favourite color scheme (lilac and turquoise), inspirations (dreams and the night sky) and characters. His hair became very curly, mostly to mimic one of my favourite character's hair Ghiaccio (from JJBA part 5). But, in november 2025, after struggling with personal problems, I shaved my whole head. To follow that drastic physical change, my sona's hair was also shaved and turned blue (I don't know why, it just happened).
For some reasons, there are more outfit and color changes. I went crazy and made him rainbow at some point. It's cool but it felt like an overkill. Besides, the nerdy, calm vibe slowly became boring. I just...didn't liked drawing Jimmy like this. It felt boring...
And then the voices told me to go pink again and to reject this nerdy vibe. Even though I prefer the pink color scheme, I'll change Jimmy' design quite a bit pretty soon, mostly because I got inspired by his June 2022's design. I'm getting more in touched and aware of my own gender expression, goals and preference. I'm a man, I'm proud to be a hairy chubby man, but maybe being a little fem wouldn't hurt, right ? I don't know, I'll experiment.
